4 Tips for Choosing Restaurant Table Bases

1. Customer Comfort & Aesthetics

The first thing to consider is customer comfort. Does the table base allow for enough legroom for customers? Is it sturdy enough to hold your table tops without wobbling? Does the style of base match your décor theme? It is essential to take these questions into consideration when purchasing table bases for your restaurant.

2. Materials

When choosing between cast iron, chrome, or aluminum table bases for restaurants, there are several factors to consider. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages, and your decision should be based on the specific needs and requirements of your restaurant. Here are some key considerations to keep in mind:

  • Cast Iron Table Bases - Constructed from durable cast iron, these bases are finished in a black powder coat for durability and aesthetic appeal. The heavy-gauge iron construction ensures long-lasting use without wear and tear. However, some cast iron bases are prone to rust if not properly maintained. Others are constructed with a rust proof coating, allowing them to be used outdoors as well.
  • Chrome Table Bases - Chrome table bases are crafted with 18-gauge steel, and offer a polished look. These bases reflect light, brightening the area and standing out. These bases, while sturdy, are not as strong as cast iron. They weigh less and may not support the same tables as a heavier, cast iron base can.
  • Aluminum Table Bases - Aluminum is known for its resistance to rust and corrosion. Suitable for patio tables as well as indoor use, aluminum bases are notable for their shiny and modern look, perfect for a range of applications. It is important to consider durability though. Aluminum, while strong, is not as heavy as cast iron or chrome, and may not have the needed weight to support heavier table tops without wobbling.

3. Consider Your Space

First, think about what you want from your table base. Will it be visible to patrons, or will it be covered by a table cloth? If using a table cloth, you can choose an economy base without shine or fancy design, saving money in the long run. If the base will be visible, what style would best suit your venue? We offer a variety of designer table bases to fit various needs. Some have intricate designs, and others are simple in construction but have a sleek shine, drawing attention to the table as a whole. Specifically designed for modern and well-lit spaces, our designer table bases are crafted to enhance the ambience of contemporary venues.

4. Choose Your Table First

Before deciding on a table base, it is essential to consider what table tops it will be supporting. If the table top is heavy, like solid wood or stone, using a base with some significant weight and a larger footprint is recommended. For lighter tables, chrome and aluminum may work. Below you will find some styles of table base and the type of table each style is designed to support.

  • X-Prong Table Bases - X-prong table bases are most often paired with square or rectangular table tops. We offer x-prong table bases in aluminum, cast iron, and chrome. In addition, intricate 3 and four prong bases are available in our designer series.
  • Round Table Bases - Most often paired with round table tops, we offer round table bases in cast iron, chrome, and stainless steel. Some of our round bases are appropriate for outdoor use, while others are specifically designed for indoor commercial settings.
  • Square Table Bases - Known for their ability to eliminate wobbling, our wide square table bases add stability to larger or heavier table tops. With their wide, square footprint, they foster stability. Some of our outdoor square bases come ready to support both the table and an umbrella.
  • 2-Prong Table Bases - These bases are designed for larger table tops, and two of them are placed at either end of the table, supporting its weight from the sides instead of the middle. These bases allow for ample legroom for patrons, as there is no center pole.
